Associational News

Sign up now for Missions Forum  to be held at FBC Trussville, Alabama, February 20-22.  This meeting is specially designed for churches or individuals just getting started in the Embrace movement to get the gospel to unengaged unreached people groups (UUPG).  A van will leave the HPBA parking lot at 4:30 a.m. Monday the 20th.  The forum starts at 2 p.m. in Alabama. Cost of the conference is $75 and includes dinner Monday night and lunch Tuesday and Wednesday.  Lodging is estimated at $100 per person for two nights and will include the hotel's breakfast.  The association will cover the cost of gas for the van.  Other incidental expenses are the responsibility of each individual.  Deadline for registration is February 13.  Contact Jim Barrett or the association office for information or to sign up.

The Last evangelism rally will be held February 19 at First Baptist Church, Gilmer, at 6:00 p.m..  Malcom Ellis, evangelist, will be the featured speaker.  An Embrace UUPG information session will be held one hour before the rally.   The presentation includes video and handouts and information on upcoming missions events.  Call the association office for more information.

The Seminary Extension ministry of the association has been suspended indefinitely.  The associational council agreed that the classes were no longer needed due to the increase of on-line options for accredited ministry education.  Any leftover seminary extension funds will be used for short-term leadership training events.

 

CHURCH NEWS

FBC Gilmer  has called Rod Hite as worship pastor.  He comes to the church from Mesquite.  His family will be joining him after the school semester ends. 

FBC Gilmer will hold a pre-teen/youth camp June 4-8 at Scottsville (east of Marshall) with pastor Blake Lander preaching and music by the band Preston.  Cost is $250 per person.  They will also have a children's camp July 26-28 at Timberline camp for $150 per camper.  Glen Little of Little Productions is the primary speaker.  Other churches are invited to participate.  Contact FBC Gilmer for further information or to register.

Lake Fork will host a Fish & Wild Game Dinner on Saturday, February 18 from 6 to 8 p.m.  High school football coach and Lake Fork fishing guide Gary Johnson is the featured speaker.  Tickets are $5.00, available from the church or a variety of businesses in the area.  Call the church for more informaton.

Lake Fork is also holding a "Man Camp" for men ages 18 and up March 2-3 at Focus Point camp.  Speaker is Chet Haney.  Registration by February 5 is necessary to be guaranteed an event T-shirt.  Final deadline for all registration forms and payments is February 26.  Contact the church office 903-473-9523 for details.

Monthly Prayer February 9

The monthly associational prayer gathering is Thursday, February 9, at 11 a.m. in the conference room of the HPBA offices.  "Dutch treat" lunch follows for those who wish to eat together.

February Executive Board Meeting Cancelled

The executive board voted to cancel its meeting scheduled for February 21 so that members could attend the Missions Forum in Alabama.  The monthly reports will be sent out as usual.  The next meeting of the board is March 21.

IRS Announces Mileage Rate

The IRS has revealed that the 2012 rate for deducting the cost of operating a car for business purposes will remain the same as it has been for the last six months of 2011: 55.5 cents.
